Christian Marriage At MLC

A wedding is a joyful occasion in a couple's life. During this sacred worship service, a new family unit is created. The Lutheran-Christian couple pray that God, who is already the foundation and guide of their lives as individuals, will bless their union and become a part of their married life and family forever. The marital union is indeed an "excellent mystery."

"There is no more lovely, friendly and charming relationship, communion

or company than a good marriage."  ~ Martin Luther

Rev. Robert Burke, assisted by Rev. Dr. Paul Bacon, celebrating the Nuptial Eucharist at Rev. Dr. Larry and Rosemary Schneekloths' wedding.

It is very important to confirm Pastor Larry's availability and, if you wish to be married at MLC, that of the church on your preferred rehearsal and wedding dates before you book a wedding and/or reception venue, etc., and pay non-refundable deposits.

Weddings are not scheduled at MLC during Lent and Holy Week, and Pastor is not available to celebrate a wedding at another venue during that time.

Lent 2023: Ash Wednesday, February 22 - Holy Saturday, April 8

To confirm Rev. Schneekloth's and the church's availability and COVID-19 safety requirements and to set up your Zoom counseling sessions, you may contact Pastor at: 708-331-4885

or  [email protected]

Important Notice: If you're planning to be married at a venue other than Markham Lutheran, Pastor Schneekloth may not be available. Please discuss this with him as soon as you become engaged and begin to make wedding plans.

Markham Lutheran Church's Mask Policy: When the CDC's SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) community level is at "Green," masks are optional for guests seated in the four rear pews on either side of the center aisle in the nave and in the balcony. Masks are required for everyone else. That includes Pastor, the couple, wedding party above two years old, families of the couple, keyboardist and other musicians, photographer and videographer, wedding planner, florist, etc. If Holy Communion is part of the service, everyone who comes forward is required to mask. When the CDC's SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) community level is "Yellow," masks are required for everyone no matter where they are seated. If the couple wish to require all of their guests to mask regardless of where they are seated regardless of the community level, that would be great.

As recommended by the CDC, windows will be open as the weather allows to promote ventilation, and the church's HEPA quality air filters in the chancel and nave will be running at top speed. Please make sure your family, wedding party, wedding planner, etc., and guests understand that they are not authorized to turn off or lower the speed on the air filters.

Some Important Questions to Consider Individually and Discuss As a Couple Before Your First Pre-marital Counseling Session:

1) Why is it important to my future spouse and me that Pastor Larry rather than a judge or someone else officiate our wedding service?

2) Why do my future spouse and I want to have a church wedding? Why have we chosen Markham Lutheran as the place to begin our marriage?

3) Are God and my Lutheran-Christian faith important to me? To us? What role have they played in our relationship and what part do I/we see them having in our marriage? Am I/are we regular church goers and actively involved in the life of the congregation and dedicated to helping it grow and thrive? If not, do I/we see this changing? Why? Why not?
